Terry Hayes

Provincial Grand Treasurer

Tel was born at a very early age in Lewisham South East London and attended Brockley County Grammar School for Boys. He left at sixteen to work as a laboratory assistant at the Wellcome research laboratories at nearby Beckenham. After two years he decided that he was not cut out to be a scientist and applied for a job with the Lewisham Borough Council. He was engaged as an Accountancy Assistant and thus sealed his destiny to become a professional number cruncher for the rest of his working life.

He moved to Somerset in 1978 as a Senior Accountant with Mendip District Council where he remained until 2001 when he was transferred to the newly formed Mendip Housing Association as Finance Manager. In August 2006 he took early retirement. After three months he took on a temporary position with North Somerset Homes which then led to a series of short assignments in both the public and private sector. In October 2007 he was asked to undertake a specific project at the then Somerset NHS Primary Care Trust for one week. He stayed with the NHS for nearly eight years before finally retiring in November 2014.

He has been married to Morveen since 1996 and has thus become a step grandfather to three lovely girls who are now old enough to no longer regard him as a human bouncy castle. Also, through Morveen’s previous profession he was club leader for the Glastonbury Gateway Club (for people with learning difficulties) for six years.

Masonically he was initiated into Pilgrims Lodge in 1998 and Exalted into Avalon Royal Arch Chapter in 2000. In the Craft he is also a member of Somerset Provincial Grand Stewards Lodge and the Somerset Masters Lodge. In the Royal Arch he is a member of the Somerset First Principals Chapter. He has held active Provincial offices in the Royal Arch and Craft
