In the spell of glorious sunny weather that mid April had produced the members of the 2014/5 Provincial Team gathered for the last Official Visit of their tenure in office. This time it was at Watchet to perform an Exaltation for the Quantock Chapter. For once, those from the farthest west parts of the Province had a short trip to get there while the rest were reminded of how distant and remote this Temple could seem. This was especially so for those who hit major road works that stopped them taking exactly the route they had planned.
However, all those expected arrived in good time and soon the dining room and bar was abuzz with conversation while small groups trickled in and out through the front door to enjoy the early evening sunshine. The regalia room became more and more congested with quite a few spilling out into the dining room with their cases to don their regalia. The Chapter Principals opened the meeting at the appointed hour and conducted the early business. I’m informed that this was all handled in a relaxed if not slightly confused manner.
A little later the Grand Superintendent, escorted by his team, was received into the Temple. E Comp John Bennett was very warmly greeted by the Chapter MEZ, E Comp Ian Nesbitt, and on being presented with the Sceptre accepted it and took the primary chair. The rest of the Provincial Team members then took over from their Chapter opposite numbers. When everyone was settled, the Team were able to continue the evening’s business. E Comp Bennett started by thanking the Chapter for agreeing to this visit and saying what a pleasure it was to be again at the Chapter he had the honour of consecrating.
