Chapter Marine No 232 May Meeting

The regular May Meeting of Chapter Marine No 232, which was held at Clevedon Masonic Hall on Tuesday 12th of May 2015, was attended by 12 members and 14 visitors and was honoured by the attendance of The M. E. Grand Superintendent accompanied a number of Provincial Officers.

The Chapter was opened at 6:00 pm by the three Principals; E. Comp Peter Harris (Z), unfortunately E. Comp Andrew Wade (Second Principal) was unable to attend, his chair was occupied by E. Comp Richard Reeve and E. Comp Steven Wilson (J). MEGS was welcomed by the Principals and E Comp Peter Harris offered him the Sceptre and gave him the opportunity of occupying the First Principals chair but while thanking him for his fraternal welcome E Comp John Bennett returned the sceptre to E.Comp Peter.

The Principals received the First Principal and Companions of Inkerman Chapter who presented the “Somerset Sceptre” to Chapter Marine. E. Comp. Matt Westley presented a eulogy for E.Comp. Ken Ball who died on the 21st March 2015. Ken had been an Honorary member of the Chapter and was a member of the Provincial team who performed the Consecration of the Chapter.

The Principals received the First Principal and Companions of Inkerman Chapter who presented the “Somerset Sceptre” to Chapter Marine. E. Comp. Matt Westley presented a eulogy for E.Comp. The main business of the evening was the Exaltation of W. Bro Kevin Dean. This was performed by the 1st Principal, E. Comp Peter Harris, ably assisted by his Officers. The next item was the presentation by E.Comp John Bennett, the Grand Superintendent of the Province of Somerset, of a 50 year certificate to E. Comp Eric Johns. He had been Exalted into Fowey Chapter on 23 June 1965. He also was a Founder Member of Chapter Marine.

After the closing of the Chapter, the Companions retired to the Dining Room where the evening was completed with pleasant company at the festive board, which on this occasion was based on a French theme. The evening was completed, as is our custom before the final toast, by our unique toast to Mother Chapters.
