CONSECRATION MINUTES
Calderley Chapter of Union No 906
The Consecration meeting of the Calderley Chapter of Union No 906 was held on Thursday 7th April 2011 at the Webbington Hotel and Spa, Loxton, Nr Axbridge, Somerset. BS26 2HU.

Founders, Excellent Companions and Companions assembled in the Crook Room. Distinguished Guests and Grand Officers processed into the room.
The Consecration team paraded into the room and the Chapter was opened, in Ancient and Solemn form and for the first time, at 3.15 pm by:

The opening Hymn was sung and the Consecrating Principal, E Comp Denis Calderley addressed the Companions on the motive of the meeting. The Consecrating Third Principal gave the opening prayer. The Consecrating DC addressed the Consecrating Principal informing him that the ME First Grand Principal had been pleased to grant a Charter of Constitution to a number of Companions authorising them to form a Chapter of Royal Arch Masons at Burnham on Sea in the Province of Somerset. The Petitioners assembled in the West. The Consecrating Principal then inspected the Charter. The Consecrating Scribe E then read the Charter. The Petitioners then approved the officers named in the Charter and returned to their seats. The Consecrating Second Principal, E Comp K Harry Barnes then presented an Oration titled “The Nature and Principles of Royal Arch Masonry” which was received with much acclamation. A copy has been appended to these minutes and retained in the Chapter files.

A hymn was sung and the Consecrating Third Principal gave the first portion of the dedication prayer. All turned to the East with the sign of R and the Consecrating Principal gave the Invocation. The Consecrating Assistant Scribe E read a passage of scripture from Ezra Chapter III verses 8 to 13. The candles were lit.

All the Petitioners were assembled in the West and the Pedestal was unveiled. The Chapter was then Consecrated in due form during which the elements of Consecration were carried around the Chapter. The Consecrating Scribe N read a passage of scripture from Psalm LXXII verse 16. The Consecrating Principal scattered corn. Consecrating Scribe N read a passage of scripture from Nehemiah Chapter X verse 39. The Consecrating Principal poured wine.
Consecrating Scribe N read a passage of scripture from Exodus Chapter XXX verses 25 and 26. The Consecrating Principal poured oil.
The Petitioners formed around the vault.
Consecrating Scribe N read a passage of scripture from Leviticus Chapter II verse 13. The Consecrating Principal sprinkled salt.
The Petitioners returned to the West and the Consecrating Principal dedicated the Chapter after which the Petitioners resumed their seats.
A hymn was sung. The Consecrating Third Principal perambulated the Chapter three times with the censer after which he presented the second portion of the dedication prayer.

The Petitioners assembled in the West and the Consecrating Principal. E Comp Denis Calderley the Most Excellent Past Grand Superintendent of Somerset, formally constituted the Calderley Chapter of Union No 906 on the register of the Supreme Grand Chapter of England. He empowered it to act as a regular Chapter conformable with the Ancient Charges and the Constitutions of the Order. Another hymn was sung after which the Consecrating Third Principal gave the Patriarchal Benediction.

E Comp Denis Calderley inducted E Comp D John Bennett, the ME Grand Superintendent for Somerset, as First Principal of the Chapter.
E Comp K Harry Barnes inducted E Comp C Trevor Cooper, PAGSoj a Past Second Provincial Grand Principal of Somerset, as Second Principal.
E Comp Ian R Jacobs inducted E Comp Reginald L Ferm, PGStB a Past Third Provincial Grand Principal of Somerset, as Third Principal.
The Consecrating DC proclaimed, for the first time, the three Principals of the Calderley Chapter of Union No 906 in the West.
The Consecrating DC announced that the office of Treasurer and Janitor are elected by ballot. On this occasion it was sufficient for the Principals to declare them. E Comp Brian E Ruse PGStB and Mike J Scaggs PGStB were declared as Treasurer and Janitor respectively.

E Comp Denis Calderley delivered the Address to the Principals
E Comp Andy Clapp delivered the Address to the Officers
E Comp Patrick Haxell delivered the Address to the Chapter Companions
All three Companions accomplished their respective tasks with dignity, confidence and alacrity.
Acceptance of the By Laws and schedule of fees was proposed by E Comp C Trevor Cooper, Second Principal, and seconded by E Comp Reginald L Ferm, Third Principal. All the Chapter Companions present unanimously adopted them.
The Consecrating DC gave the Charter, Book of Constitutions and Chapter by laws to the Consecrating Principal who then presented them to the First Principal and his Co-Principals.
E Comp Richard Cooper, a subscribing member of the Royal Albert Edward Lodge No 906, presented a bible to the Chapter on behalf of the Lodge. The First Principal accepted it with grateful thanks and confirmed that
it would be dedicated at the next meeting of the Chapter. He requested that members of the Lodge attend to form the escort.
Alms amounting to £441.00 were collected.
The Consecrating team and distinguished guests retired.

This proposition was seconded by E Comp C Trevor Cooper and unanimously accepted by all the Chapter members present.
E Comp Richard J Ellis PGStB, Scribe E, proposed that E Comp John Griffin PPrGSoj, Third Provincial Grand Principal designate, and E Comp Ian Barrie PPrGSoj, Provincial Grand Director of Ceremonies designate, as joining members of the Chapter. E Comp Robert H Moore PGStB, Assistant Scribe E, seconded the proposition. All Chapter Companions present unanimously accepted the proposition.

He confirmed that there was no further business to transact. He announced that the next meeting would be held on MONDAY 5th SEPTEMBER 2011. All reigning First Principals of Somerset Chapters would be invited to attend to discuss matters relating to the Holy Royal Arch in this Province. The Bible presented by the Royal Albert Edward Lodge No 906 would be dedicated.

The MEZ and Principals concluded with the risings. There was no business to report at each rising. The Chapter was closed in due form and with solemn prayer at 5.07pm. The closing hymn was sung.

A festive dinner was held in the Brent room attend by 111 Companions and guests. The usual toasts were given. E Comp Denis Calderley gave a speech and proposed a toast to the Calderley Chapter of Union. The MEZ, E Comp D John Bennett gave a suitable reply. E Comp C Trevor Cooper, Haggai, made a Speech and toast to the guests. E Comp Simon Rowe, the ME Grand Superintendent of Devon gave a thoughtful and amusing reply. The day’s events concluded and Companions retired at about 8.15pm.
