Adrian Halliwell

Adrian Halliwell1Adrian was born in Watford, Hertfordshire, in 1949 and lived in Radlett with parents and three siblings. He was educated at Bushey Grammar School and left in 1965 bound for a job at the Hydrographic Department in Cricklewood. However, the application process was drawn out and in the interim worked on a farm until finally joining in December. In April 1968 the Dept. moved down to Taunton to combine with the production side.

Married in July 1970 to Anne, whom he had known since aged 14. In 1976 they moved to Wellington with their daughter Anita and a year later their son Stuart arrived on the scene. Anita is now an Assistant Head Teacher and Stuart a Sales Director. Anne and Adrian moved back into Taunton in 2012.

Adrian progressed through various posts in the UKHO, as the Department became known, achieving his goal of becoming Head of Chart Branch in first the Middle East, including the Persian Gulf and Red Sea, then SE Asia, both areas requiring travel where he secured data for inclusion in Admiralty Charts and leading initial Bi-lateral talks in many of the countries in these regions. From here he took early retirement in 2006 and was diagnosed with cancer shortly after tendering his resignation. Following surgery and six months of chemotherapy he and Anne, who in 2002 was run over by a car (well it parked on top of her) that caused traumatic injuries, which at one time looked as though she could possibly be wheelchair bound, decided that life was too short and living was for the now and to enjoy themselves, their children and seven grandchildren and their garden.

Adrian was Initiated into Vivary Lodge, no 8654, in March 1979, days before his 30th birthday, where he progressed through the offices becoming Master in 1993. Thence he became Ass Sec, Ass DC and then Treasurer. In 2015 he became WM for the second time. On his 50th birthday he gained Provincial Honours of PProvSGD in 1999, PProvGSwdB in 2009 and ProvSGW in 2018.

He was exalted into the Chapter of Fidelity and Sincerity, no 1966, in February 1996, progressing to Z in 2007. In conjunction with E Comp Gary Hughes he produced the 1966 Ritual Book (Wellington Workings) in 2011 and he produced the 2nd Edition in 2014. His first Provincial Appointment was ProvAGDC in 2010 followed by PProvGSoj in 2011, then ProvDGDC in 2016. Also he became the Provincial Liaison Officer, supporting the Calderley Liaison Officers in updating the Provincial Website.

Adrian is also the Taunton Area Coordinator for the TLC Appeal which he took on in 2006 and since then has raised money to be able to donate over 6000 teddies to Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton.
