Calderley Chapter – September 2022

The Chapter met at Wedmore with a goodly number of Calderley Liaison Officers present. The Chapter was opened by E Comp Mat Westley assisted by two substitutes, E Comps Chris Moore as H and David Parslow as J. The Companions stood for a moment of silence in respect to our dearly departed HM The Queen. After the Minutes were approved and Matters Arising cleared the ME welcomed E Comp Clive Lambert, DepGS, who was acting as Janitor. E Comps Clive Hennessy and Adrian Halliwell who were absent from the Installation Meeting were invested as DC and 2ndAssSoj respectively.

Next item was to Elect the three Principals for the following year: E Comps Chris Summers as Z, Malcolm Slocombe as H and Julian May as J. E Comp Julian thanked the chapter on behalf of them all. The Treasurer, E Comp Chris Moore was re-elected.

MEZ invited E Comp Neil Hurcum to take the floor for the discussion on communications within the Province:

Neil highlighted the failings in our current communications stating that it was not strong, especially with joining companions and those that were considering joining Chapter; To our own Membership; Enjoyment within Chapters; Calderley Chapter, its aims and meetings; Externally was quite poor and should the Craft do it all?; Chapters needed to improve their own profile, especially their home pages and posts with more social activities. A good debate followed with CLOs asking for assistance in working on the website. It was stated that if they couldn’t add items to the website then they should send them to the Provincial Liaison Officer, E Comp Adrain Halliwell, and he would update the site.

There are also news outlets available: the monthly RA newsletter which is shared between four regional coordinators and can be sent to either Neil Hurcum:, and/or at Also the Craft site at

Should the Calderley Liaison Officers have a name change? This generated much discussion and a possible change to Calderley Communication Officers and alternative.

E Comp Neil stressed the need to try to find a way to get those nonattached companions to rejoin, find out why they left, and possibly feedback to Province. This was a possible task for CLOs but for any companion. There was talk of highlighting the Royal Arch in Craft meetings that should be a task for the RA Rep who could give a report on the Third Rising. This was a problem and needed a directive from Province.

There was no other business and the Chapter was closed and the companions retired to the Festive Board where much discussion continued.

Next Meeting will be in the morning at Clevedon Masonic Hall.
