Provincial Annual Convocation – 22nd October 2021

The Convocation was held at our usual venue, The Webbington Hotel and Spa at Loxton commencing at 11:30. The normal numbers was greatly reduced to just below 100 because of the Covid-19 situation, but that didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of those attending.

At the morning rehearsal all went well, especially for the DC, E Comp Tony Cooper on his first full Prov Convocation.

What’s going on?

E Comp Clive Lambert, Deputy Grand Superintendent in Charge processed in with the Provincial Team and duly opened the Chapter followed by the opening hymn. The Roll of Chapters was called with all Somerset Chapters represented, with E Comp D John Bennett, Past Grand Superintendent getting up the most, he needed a rest afterwards!

The names of those Somerset Companions who passed to the Grand Chapter Above were read out and companions stood in respect of departed merit, especially for our MEGS< E comp Barry K Woodside. The minutes of the Last Annual Convocation held at Clevedon on 22nd October 2020 had been circulated to all companions and proposed, seconded and adopted.

The Accounts were were adopted and the Scribe E, E Comp Tony Beaumont, pointed that these were shown in the programme for all to see, (see HERE). Election followed for the Prov Treasurer, E Comp Tel Hayes, was approved and another for an Examiner.

E Comp Clive then appointed and Obligated E Comp Neil Hurcum as 2nd Prov Grand Principal also thanking the outgoing E Comp Ray Beckingham who would be continuing as the Prov Learning and Development Officer. E Comp Clive then re-appointed E Comp Clive Lester as 3rd Prov Grand Principal. He then reiterated the appointment of E Comp Tony Cooper as Prov DC and then went on to reiterate the Prov Team and those either promoted or first appointed to Prov Rank.

There followed E Comp Clive’s address to the Convocation which highlighted the past year’s struggles with Covid-19, especially the sudden death of our MEGS and those that assisted him in organising the Memorial Service for Barry. He also congratulated those being appointed/promoted in Province and those Somerset companions in Grand Chapter. To see the full address click HERE.

The other items were conducted and the Convocation was completed and closed with most companions enjoying the lunch that followed.
