  • King Alfred October Installation

    The Installation Convocation for King Alfred 3169 was held on Monday 23rd October and was attended by E.Comp. Clive Lambert, Provincial 2nd Grand Principal, accompanied by E Comp Anthony Cooper, Provincial Deputy Grand Director of Ceremonies.


    The installation of the three Principals was carried out with dignity and sincerity. The installation ceremony was relatively short given H and J were Principals during the previous year.

  • Vale of Jehoshaphat, 291, Installation

    The annual Installation meeting was held at the Vale of Jehoshaphat Chapter, Burnham-on-Sea, on Friday 24th November.  The Grand Superintendent, E Comp D. John Bennett, was in attendance with Alexander ‘Sandy’ Glenn, acting as his DC.  Also present from the Province were E Comps John Smith, Provincial Almoner, Richard Conneely, Standard Bearer, and Keith Kerslake, Steward.

  • Chapter of Brotherly Love Installation 2017

    The Companions were honoured by the presence of  E Comp Alan Holton, Deputy Grand Superintendent, accompanied by E Comp Chris Moore, PrGDC, also E Comp Peter Bradshaw, PrGStdB, and E Comp Norman Sumpter, PrGStwd.

  • 1966 Installation – Part Two

    The November Meeting was the completion of our Installation Meeting whereby R Comp Peter Chidzey was Inducted into the chair of Zerubbabel. E comp was absent from the Installation Meeting as he was at home a week after undergoing open heart Surgery and to have recovered so quickly was great to see. Officers also absent were invested with their collars by Peter.   • Visit to Devonshire’s Annual Provincial Convocation November 2017

    On Saturday 11th November a group of Somerset Companions, headed by their Grand Superintendent, E Comp John Bennett, made their way south to attend Devonshire’s Annual Provincial Convocation.  This is held in the Riviera Centre, Torquay.  All of them made an early arrival, which is a necessity to get a good parking space.  They made their way to the Invited Visitors and Grand Officers robing hall and were soon among friends from both Devonshire and other Provinces.

  • Provincial Team Visit to Supreme Grand Chapter and Somersetshire Chapter – 8th November 2017

    A bright and early start saw five intrepid masons board the 7:06 train at Taunton bound for Paddington. Arriving at Paddington we headed for the Underground when passing down the steps E Comp Tony Beaumont tripped about eight steps up his case went flying but somehow he managed to stay upright! That was Tony’s second incident as on boarding the train someone was sitting in his seat.   • 285 Installation Convocation 25th October 2017

    Wednesday 25th October was the Chapter’s Installation ceremony, when the new team of Principals was installed. The Chapter was honoured by the presence of the Most Excellent Grand Superintendent, E. Comp. D John Bennett and members of the Provincial team.  A number of visitors attended including Companions from Dorset and Cornwall, as well as from other Somerset Chapters.

  • St. Keyna Exaltation Ceremony – October 2017

    St. Keyna welcomed a new member to the Chapter and to Royal Arch Masonry at their October Convocation.


    Bro Robert Edwards was exalted into the supreme degree and made a Companion by the three Principals and members of the Chapter.


    Companion Bob is a member of the Vale of Brislington Lodge and is looking forward to many years in Royal Arch Masonry.

  • St Luke’s Goblets presented

    At the October 2017 meeting of St Luke’s Chapter No 6540 E Comp Roger Penny made an unusual presentation to the First Principal on behalf of the Chapter’s members. Following the passing to the Grand Chapter above of esteemed member E Comp David George it was decided, by the Past Zerubabels, that some way of honouring David’s memory should be instituted and Roger suggested that a set of wine goblets for use by the Principals might be a suitable memorial.   • Supreme Grand Chapter Honours

    At the Calderley Chapter of Union, no 906, Most Excellent Grand Superintendent, D John Bennett, announced that each Grand Superintendent had been allocated some additional Grand Collars to mark the fact that His Royal Highness the Duke of Kent had been the First Grand Principal for 50 years. This Province was to be granted one extra Supreme Grand Chapter Appointment and one extra Promotion. These will be bestowed at the next Supreme Grand Chapter on Wednesday 8th  November.

  • Installation at Perpetual Friendship, no 135

    The Installation Ceremony took place at Bridgwater Masonic Hall on 2nd October 2017. The Chapter was opened by MEZ, E Comp Richard Teague, and when a report was heard on the door and E Comp Adrian Halliwell, PrDGDC, requested admission. He reported that E Comp Alan Holton, Deputy Grand Superintendent was without, accompanied by two Supreme Chapter officers and two Prov Officers, and he demanded admission.   • Calderley Banner Dedication

    At the September meeting of the Calderley Chapter of Union No 906 the Provincial Team dedicated the new Banner for the Chapter so kindly donated by E Comp Denis Calderley, Past Grand Superintendent in and over the Province of Somerset.

  • Ex. Comp. Peter TOMKINS 50 years a member of the Holy Royal Arch

    Peter was born on the 10th September 1934 and during his working life he was an Accountant. He was initiated into Freemasonry on the 5th November 1965 in Edward Holiday Lodge No 7997 under The District Grand Lodge of Eastern Archipelago and meeting at Kuala Lumpar. This Lodge still exists and still meets in the same place. Peter resigned from Edward Holliday Lodge on the 13th March 1992.

    The Installation Ceremony was, unfortunately, not as hoped as Z Elect was recovering from major heart surgery and the Principal Sojourner Elect had injured his back only hours before the evening was to start. However, that said the offices were filled and the evening went off quite well.

  • Somerset 1st Principals have another interesting evening, September 2017

    The Chapter once again returned to its home at Bridgwater for the Installation Meeting on Wednesday 6th September, but with a difference! The Chapter was opened at 6:00pm and E Comp Chris Moore, PrGDC, was admitted. He informed the MEZ, E Comp John Rudge, that the MEGS E Comp D John Bennett was without accompanied by a numerous retinue and he demanded admission.   • Royal Arch Golf Team Hole out

    Once a year the Craft, Royal Arch, Mark and Knight Templars Degree in Somerset have a Golf Challenge and this takes place at various Golf Courses within Somerset.


    This year’s challenge was at Clevedon Golf Club on Monday 7th August 2017 with Barry Woodside leading a team consisting of:-John Harty, Brian Pollard, Harry Price, Peter Ashby & John Knight.

  • 1st Principals Annual Dinner

    14th July saw a gathering of members and their wives for the Chapter annual dinner.  This year, the Wedmore Golf Club not being available, MEZ John Rudge decided to try out The Webbington.  We were in the Garden Suite and could well have risked eating outside as it was such a lovely evening!


    E Comp John Rudge did well to make the event, having recently been in hospital. He presented his wife with a bouquet of flowers, thanking her for looking after him so well.

  • Brotherly Love No 329 June 2017 Convocation

    The Chapter was opened in due form at 6:30 and E Comp Adrian Halliwell, DGDC, announced that the Chapter was honoured by the presence of E Comp Clive Lambert, newly appointed 2nd Provincial Grand Principal, and he was welcomed by E Comp Neil Tinkley, MEZ, and proffered the Sceptre which was speedily returned.   • Royal Cyrus no 285 Honours Bob Moore

    It is not very often that E Comp Bob Moore, PGSwdB, and Past Deputy Grand Superintendent, is speechless but such was the case on Wednesday evening 28th May 2017.

  • Provincial Officer’s Dinner 2017

    The Annual Provincial Officer’s Dinner was held once again at the Commodore Hotel, Sand Bay, Weston-super-Mare, on Friday 2nd June. E Comp Bob Moore once again organised the evening assisted by his wife Val.


    The companions and wives/partners struggled through the Friday night traffic with E Comp Alan Holton and his wife taking four hours to get there from Tiverton, others had similar journeys.     The Installation Meeting of Taunton Deane Chapter no 5221 was in doubt when I arrived at the Masonic Hall in Taunton on Friday 26th May. The car park barrier could not be opened and the Grand Superintendent was left on the street.   • Provincial Convocation, 18th May 2017

    Once again the Provincial Convocation was held at the Webbington Hotel and Spa on Thursday 18th May on a beautiful sunny day. A rehearsal was held at 12:00 and everyone involved were able to run through their parts under E Comp Chris Moore’s direction, well as DC he had to work for his supper. At or before 2:30 the active Officers for 2017-2018 collected their collar jewels and then had their portrait taken by E Comp Arthur Rowe for inclusion on the Provincial Website.   • Connaught Chapter Convocation 9th May.

    Due to the pressures of work, and in two cases, illness, the Convocation was poorly attended. However, the offices were filled and the evening got under way.


    As there was no candidate, a presentation of the Tracing board was given, led by our own E.Comp. Robert H Moore,P.Pr.Dep.G.Supt. This was given in catechetical form, which involved every Companion present and, I feel, advanced our Masonic knowledge at least one step.

    At the April Convocation the Chapter opened at 6:00pm, which left a few companions outside the door as they arrived late, expecting the usual 6:30pm start, including myself. After the opening these wayward companions were admitted with an explanation of “car trouble, e.i. I didn’t get in it early enough” by one companion.

  • 1966 Complete the Grand Slam

    The Chapter of Fidelity and Sincerity was held on 24th April, a week later than usual to avoid Easter Monday. The Chapter was honoured by E Comp Maldwyn Davies, 2nd Provincial Grand Principal accompanied by E Comp Derek Tadman, ProvAssDC. This was Derek’s last outing as ProvADC, despite travelling all the way from Trowbridge to be with us.


    The visit of E Comp Malwyn meant that 1966 had achieved the Grand Slam of being visited by all Provincial rulers in one season.

  • PROVINCIAL TEAM VISIT TO ABBEY CHAPTER – 13TH APRIL 2017

    This Team Visit was taken to help celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Consecration of Abbey Chapter back in 1992. The team undertook the Ceremony of The Veils as part of this celebration, which was the fifth time it has been undertaken in Somerset. All the five Chapters were Consecrated by E Comp Tom Hughes during his time as Grand Superintendent in and over the Province of Somerset.

  • Provincial Officer’s Visits and Changes of Procedure from September 2017

        When a Chapter is honoured with a visit from the Grand Superintendent, the Deputy Grand Superintendent or the 2nd or 3rd Provincial Grand Principal for an Installation Convocation they present the Address to the Principals, but when they visit a Chapter for a Regular Convocation they take no part in the Ceremony at all.

    At the 112th meeting of King Alfred Chapter, after the announcement by E. Comp John Sillett, E.Comp. D.     At the last meeting of Exmoor Chapter 2390 we had a wonderful evening not only did we have a Candidate for exaltation but the evening was attended by M.E.G.S. D. John Bennett. This was not a sit back and take it easy night for our Grand Superintendent but rather a working evening!

  • A fantastic (but busy) evening at Avalon’s February meeting

    On Tuesday 21st February Avalon Chapter met at their new home in Wedmore for an extremely busy but equally rewarding evening of Royal Arch Masonry. The agenda included a Provincial Team Visit, a visit from members of the fellow Founding Chapters of Somerset, the delivery of the Somerset Sceptre from Royal Sussex Chapter, an Exaltation carried out by the Provincial Team and the presentation of a Supreme Grand Chapter Certificate!!

    The Provincial Team visited Royal Sussex Chapter in Bath on Monday 20th March to perform a Demonstration Exaltation Ceremony. There were 19 members of the Team plus a replacement Principal Sojourner, E Comp John Giblin, who stood in at the last moment.

  • Installation Convocation of Connaught Chapter.

    The Installation Convocation was held on Tuesday 14th March and was attended by E.Comp. Clive Lambert, Provincial 3rd Grand Principal, accompanied by E.Comp. Adrian Halliwell, Provincial Deputy Grand Director of Ceremonies.


    The installation of the three Principals, MEZ,  E.Comp. Russell Frayling, H, E.Comp. Mark Collins and J, E.Comp. Neill Arthur, was carried out with dignity and sincerity.   • Royal Cumberland RAC No.41 – March 2017 Convocation

    At our March convocation E.Comp. Clive A F Lambert the Provincial 3rd Grand Principal, accompanied by three Officers of Supreme Grand Chapter, was warmly welcomed by the Principals of the Chapter on this his first formal visit to Royal Cumberland Chapter.


     


    Although there was no candidate for exaltation, the opportunity was taken to demonstrate the Cumberland Workings by enlisting the services of our new Joining Member Comp.   • The Somerset Sceptre makes its way to St.Keyna Chapter

    The Somerset Sceptre was presented to the Stand in First Principal E Comp Barry McCormack by the First principal of Avalon Chapter No.446 at the last convocation of St. Keyna Chapter No. 1833 at their home in Keynsham.


    The MEGS  and Provincial Deputy Grand Director of Ceremonies E Comp Adrian Halliwell were also in attendance to see the sceptre transferred into safe hands until being presented to St. Luke Chapter, Bath a week later.


    The Chapter also carried out a demonstration of the Exaltation Ceremony for all assembled.

  • 16 03 2017 – Chapter Marine Compass & Temple Floorcloth Dedication

     


     


    The Chapter Marine Installation ceremony was honoured by the presence of the Provincial 2nd Grand Principal E.Comp. Maldwyn Davies who also presented a Grand Chapter Certificate to Comp. Robert Baylis.


    At this Convocation our M.E. Grand Superintendent, E. Comp. D. John Bennett carried out a Ceremony of Dedication for the new Temple Royal Arch Chapter Floorcloth together with Chapter Marine’s Compass.


    The Convocation was attended by representatives of the other Clevedon Chapters.


    This unique ceremony was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

    The Royal Arch Somerset Tracing Board will be officially presented to Exmoor Chapter 2390 on  Wednesday 22nd March 2017. This is the date of the next convocation of the Exmoor Chapter. The Tracing board will be presented by M.E.G.S. D. John Bennett, with this difference…

    Following a request, from Provincial Grand Chapter for a ‘photo album’ of Chapter members, duly submitted. It was decided in this Chapter to give a copy of this gallery to all Exaltees to speed the recognition of their new Companions. This was preceded by a request at a Chapter meeting, duly recorded in the minutes, to obtain the consent, or otherwise, of Companions for their photo to be used for this purpose.

  • Forget-Me-Not Donation by St George Companions

    Members of the Chapter of St George participated in a donation of £200 to the ‘Forget-me-not Cafe’ at Langport where their respected companion, the late Comp Bob Rich had obtained valuable assistance whilst suffering from dementia. Comps Steve Thraxton, Ron Blake, Paul Diment  and E Comp Paul Buckler  were aware of the excellent work the club does in providing assistance to both those with memory problems and their carers and wished to record their appreciation in memory of a late Brother.

  • Banner Dedication in Taunton in January 2017

    In 2016 the three chapters meeting at Taunton Masonic hall came to the conclusion that the banners that were in use by all three chapters were beginning to show their age and should be replaced. The chapters agreed that the cost would be shared and the new banners were purchased.

  • Wrington Vale Installation Meeting, December 16

    Companions my apologies for the lateness of my report, early in the New Year I had a freak accident and damaged my right kidney in that it stopped working. It’s all on the mend now.


    The Installation meeting was on the 12th December where D John Bennett, MEGS, was present accompanied by E Comp Derek Tadman, Prov Assistant Grand DC, and our own Peter Ansell, Prov Steward.

    Once again the Provincial Weekend was held at the Durrant House Hotel in Bideford between 3rd and 5th February 2017. The weekend was a great success much due to the sterling efforts of E Comp Keith Fisher and his wife Margaret. The companions and wives/partners and guests mainly arrived on Friday and got themselves settled in before the evening hot or cold buffet and entertainment. Next morning after a hearty breakfast many headed off to discover the delights of Bideford, Barnstaple and the surrounding Devon countryside before returning to get changed for the main event of Dinner followed by Dancing.

  • Presentation of Tracing Board at St Keyna

    At the last meeting of St. Keyna Chapter E Comp Bob Moore, Past Deputy Grand Superintendent gave an explanation of the Tracing Board and then presented it to the Chapter.


    Our most recent Candidate, Comp Ewbank-Smith, was also presented with his Supreme Grand Chapter Certificate by the 3rd Provincial Grand Principal E Comp Clive Lambert.

  • Vale of Jehoshaphat Chapter Installation 2016

    A very successful Installation meeting was held at the Vale of Jehoshaphat Chapter, Burnham on Sea.  40 companions joined the meeting and 37 dined.  E Comp Matthew Jarvis was installed as first Principal, which was remarkable in its own way, having been exalted into the Chapter on 24th February 2012, starting as Principal Sojourner in that November and working his way to the Principal’s chair.  Matthew is at present Junior Deacon in his mother lodge.     In line with most other Provinces, the Grand Superintendent wants Provincial Officers to have official email addresses which will be passed to new Officers when there is change in personnel.

  • St Luke’s Chapter receive an Explanation of the HRA Tracing Board

    At the November meeting of St Luke’s Chapter, in Bath, E Comp Bob Moore visited us and gave us a talk explaining the signification of the Royal Arch Tracing Board. This was only the second occasion that Bob had given this fascinating talk. Most members would be forgiven for not knowing that there ever were tracing boards in chapters because they have fallen into disuse and the only board surviving in Somerset is in Taunton so it is something that Chapter members are not familiar with.

  • Visit to Devonshire’s Annual Convocation

    On Saturday 19th November a number of Somerset’s senior Companions headed for Torquay.     The 111th meeting of King Alfred Chapter began with the procession welcoming Excellent Companion Barry Woodside (Dka3169-principals-2016-1016eputy Provincial Grand Superintendent), Chris Moore (PrGDC), Neil Arthur (PrGStB) and John Trowbridge (PrGStwd).

  • King Alfred Chapter History

    The genesis of King Alfred Chapter began in Jat-a-hughesnuary 1988 when the Grand Superintendent, Ex Comp T A Hughes (pictured) requested that serious  consideration be given to forming a second Chapter in Weston-super-Mare. There were a  number of Royal Arch Companions attending Craft Lodges in WSM who were not members of Inkerman Chapter and who might have been interested in joining a new Chapter.

  • Ceremony of the Veils

    The basis of the current Royal Arch ceremonies worked in England was established and agreed by Supreme Grand Chapter in 1834. There is some evidence that before those changes the ceremony of Passing the Veils was practised as a preliminary to the Exaltation ceremony. This was particularly true in Lodges under the former Antients Grand Lodge which worked the Royal Arch ceremony within the Craft Lodge, but there is little evidence of it being worked in Chapters under the original Excellent Grand and Royal Chapter.

  • Provincial Team Visit to Vale of Jehoshaphat Chapter

    On a rather dismal and wet September evening the Chapter gathered for its Installation where we were honoured by the presence of MEGS D John Bennett, accompanied by E Comps Chris Moore, PrDGC, Brian Buttle, PrGStdB, and John Trowbridge , PrGSteward.   • Somerset 1st Principals Installation, Sept 2016

    A rather warm evening in Bridgwater was the setting for the Installation Meeting with not quite the full-house that we usually have. The Chapter was opened and business dealt with quite speedily, visiting members of Dorset and Gloucester and Hereford 1st Principals were welcomed as well as Somerset Principals.

  • Connaught Chapter’s Annual Walk 2016

    The day of Sunday July 3rd dawned bright and dry. Just the right conditions for the annual walk and lunch. At 11:30,the 18 brave souls set off at a gentle pace on the 3 mile walk starting from the Masonic Hall and arriving back at around 12:30 to meet up with the non-walkers.

    • The chapter was held at its home of Burnham-on-sea on a pleasant evening though a bit warm, with a goodly number of Liaison Officers in attendance. The three Principals opened the Chapter and undertook the routine workings including: balloting for two Honorary and four Joining Members; proclaiming the Principals and Treasurer Elect, who all responded to this, though E Comp Keith Fisher raised a smile among those present, before handing over the sceptre to MEGS John Bennett who greeted four visitors from Hampshire and Isle of Wight and the CLOs.

    Attended a very good, informative meeting last night where the new Provincial website was launched and the design of the Calderley chapter banner was agreed.


    The Calderley chapter liaison officer is to be invested with a collarette which should be worn at meetings within own chapter and at the meal afterwards. The thinking behind this move is so that chapter members know who their liaison officer is and therefore who to go to with ideas or questions.

    The last three sessions of the Calderley Liaison Officers Training Seminars were held on 24th August with the usual trio of tutors/sorter outers of E Comps Bob Moore, Chris Moore and Adrian Halliwell took place at the Webbington Hotel and Spar.

    The New Provincial Chapter Website is a real whizz…once you have had the training! A small group of Chapter Liaison Officers met for the first tranche of training on maintaining the new website and looking at the potential of the new Provincial Chapter web system.

    Terry Wood stands down at St George

    At the Installation meeting of the Chapter of St George no 3158, held in May 1995, E Comp Terry Wood was installed as the DC. He had held this office continuously for 20 years but decided to stand down this year.

    Bro. Tony Saunter, Tynte Lodge, Bridgwater and Vale of Jehoshaphat Chapter Burnham-on-Sea, held a summer evening barbeque in his garden in July in aid of 3 charities. Lots of hard work by all the family ensured the success of this day. Tony, who works in the butchery trade was able to obtain the meat at a reasonable price!     50 Year Certificate in Royal Sussex

    Victor John Henry Oliver was Exalted into Royal Sussex Chapter on the 16th April 1962. He had been made 1st Principal of the Chapter in 1975. In 1978 he was appointed Provincial Assistant Grand Director of Ceremonies. From 1988 to 2004 he served as the Chapter’s Treasurer also from 1998 to 2008 he covered the post of Almoner. Province promoted him to Past Provincial Grand Registrar in 1990. In 2006 he had served another year as Treasurer. Mervyn Small and I visited him to present his 50 year certificate as is shown in this picture.

    In the spell of glorious sunny weather that mid April had produced the members of the 2014/5 Provincial Team gathered for the last Official Visit of their tenure in office. This time it was at Watchet to perform an Exaltation for the Quantock Chapter.     Parrett & Axe Chapter No.814 Donations

    The Charity Steward of the Parrett & Axe Chapter No.814, who meet at Crewkerne, identified that they had accumulated monies in the Charity account and the Companions decided that they would like to support the Somerset Levels appeal, the Royal College of Surgeons Provincial Chapter appeal and the Musgrove hospital Beacon Cancer Centre.     The March meeting of King Alfred Chapter had to be brought forward owing to its normal meeting day coinciding with Easter Monday. This meant that several officers were unable to attend due to other commitments which, coupled with others suffering illness, meant that plans for the gathering suffered a series of incremental revisions.     Monday 27th January saw Companions from Wiltshire, Dorset and Hampshire & Isle of Wight, as well as Somerset, heading for Weston-super-Mare, not to get to the beach but to gather at Inkerman Chapter’s meeting. The Provincial Teams from each of these Chapters were gathering for a social evening and were all going to sit back and watch the Chapter Officers perform an Exaltation.

    On the 11th March Malcolm Beard and I made the long trip up from East Devon to Midsomer Norton to attend Connaught Chapter’s Installation Meeting. Arriving from a totally different direction from those I’d travelled previously we took a random left turn on reaching the town centre.     Adair Chapter Sunday Lunch

    The weather on Sunday 3rd April 2016 was decidedly chilly but the atmosphere at The Clevedon Masonic Hall was certainly different as Companions, Ladies and Friends assembled for a Sunday Lunch. Although Lunch was not due to be served until 1.30pm shortly after Midday most guests had arrived to be welcomed by the 1st Principal of Adair Chapter E Comp Darrell Hinder.


    The Lunch was served by Zena’s Catering and was superb, both in quality and quantity.

    Provincial Team visit Minehead

    On 23rd March the Provincial Team gathered in the far west of the Province for what was to be a busy meeting at Exmoor Chapter.


    It was an opportunity for the Grand Superintendent, E Comp John Bennett, to present E Comp John Lendon PPrGReg with a Certificate to mark his 50 years in the Royal Arch.

    E Comp Denis Calderley Past Grand Superintendent in and over the Province of Somerset was presented with his 50 year Veteran Certificate by the ME Grand Superintendent D John Bennett at a meeting of the Royal Cumberland Chapter No. 41 Bath on Tuesday 19th April.


    The occasion was supported by the Provincial Team, nearly 70 Companions including 14 Officers of Supreme Grand Chapter and Heads of Orders. It was a splendid evening full of history and humour with Denis enjoying the moment in his light-hearted yet thoughtful customary manner.

    The Founding Chapters of the Province of Somerset met at the Inkerman Chapter No.1222 in Weston-super-Mare on 25th  April, however only 7 of the 8 were present:

  • Chapter of Fidelity and Sincerity, no 1966, bids farewell to the Deputy GS, 18 th April 2016

    At the April Convocation the Chapter was honoured by the presence of E Comp Robert (Bob) H Moore, Deputy Grand Superintendent accompanied by E Comp Ian Barrie, PrGDC. The MEZ, E Comp Keith Smith, welcomed E Comp Bob and proffered the Sceptre which was graciously returned.     Calderley Installation Meeting

    On 7th March Senior Companions from around the Province, as well as those Communication Officers who could, gathered at Clevedon for the Chapter’s Installation Meeting. The meeting was opened by E Comp Terry Wood the outgoing, in several senses of the word, MEZ. After the initial items had been attended to E Comp John Sillett DPrGDC entered and announced the presence of E Comp John Bennett MEGS. He was immediately received into the Temple accompanied by E Comp Chris Moore, 3rd ProvGPrin., warmly greeted and returned the Sceptre but with the proviso that he would take it again later.

    If you ever need to experience the Royal Arch at it’s best you need to make a visit to the Devon & Somerset Farmer’s Chapter that meets at Uffculme in Devon and at the last Convocation of the Chapter the evening was guaranteed to be well supported as the Exaltee on that evening was no less that the son of our Provincial Grand Scribe Ezra.     Adair Chapter Sunday Lunch

    The weather on Sunday 3rd April 2016 was decidedly chilly but the atmosphere at The Clevedon Masonic Hall was certainly different as Companions, Ladies and Friends assembled for a Sunday Lunch. Although Lunch was not due to be served until 1.30pm shortly after Midday most guests had arrived to be welcomed by the 1st Principal of Adair Chapter EComp Darrell Hinder.


    The Lunch was served by Zena’s Catering and was superb, both in quality and quantity.


    Following Lunch a Raffle was held and this raised a great deal of money for the 1st Principals Designated Charity for Leukaemia Research. The Read More..

  • Chapter of Fidelity and Sincerity 1966 – MEGS’ visit in February

    The Chapter was and honoured by the attendance of MEGS E Comp D John Bennett accompanied by E Comp Mervyn Small, PrDDC. On his entrance he was presented with the Sceptre which was gracefully received and promptly returned to E Comp Keith Smith, Z.




    A vote was then taken for Bro Malcolm South to be Exalted into the Chapter, which was duly carried. Malcolm is currently the Junior Warden of the Lodge of Fidelity and Sincerity.

    A very pleasant evening was had at the Masonic Hall in Wellington when E Comp Chris Moore, 3rd Provincial Grand Principal attended for his first Installation in that office, attended by E Comp John Sillett, PrDGDC.     St Keyna’s Installation Meeting

    On 14th May, St. Keyna Chapter held their Installation at Keynsham. The evening began with the procession for the Deputy Grand Superintendent, E Comp R H Moore. The evening was very enjoyable and the ceremony was carried out with much reverence and ceremony.

    Provincial Team visit Eldon Chapter Nov 2013

    On the 7th November the Provincial Team congregated in Clevedon. The Province was making a visit to Eldon Chapter as part of their work for the current season. Unfortunately, the 2nd Provincial Grand Principal was unable to attend as he was indisposed following a recent operation. Accordingly the Deputy Grand Superintendent stepped in to cover the role he had filled so well over several previous years.

    RCRAC No.41 – February 2012 Meeting

    Tuesday 21st February saw Companions gathering in Bath for Royal Cumberland’s regular meeting. Whilst they did not have an Exaltee for this meeting it was to be a rather special gathering. The Grand Superintendent, E Comp John Bennett, was visiting the Chapter and at the start of the meeting had the privilege and pleasure of presenting a 60th anniversary certificate to E Comp Douglas Burford.
